Welensky, Sir Roy
(20 ene. 1907, Salisbury, Rhodesia del Sur–5 dic. 1991, Blandford Forum, Dorset, Inglaterra).

Político de Rhodesia. Cuando joven trabajó en los ferrocarriles y después se convirtió en presidente del sindicato de trabajadores del ferrocarril. Ostentó el título de campeón de boxeo en la categoría de pesos pesados de Rhodesia en 1925–27. Inició su carrera política en 1938, al ser elegido miembro del poder legislativo de Rhodesia del Norte. Fuerte partidario de la Federación de Rhodesia y Nyasalandia (actual Malawi), fue elegido miembro de su primer parlamento y en 1956 se convirtió en primer ministro. Retuvo el cargo hasta la disolución de la Federación en 1963, cuando Rhodesia del Sur declaró su independencia con el nombre de Zimbabwe.
